inflammation of adipose tissue in an animal whose diet is excessively high in unsaturated fats and low in vitamin E; it usually occurs in cats and mink fed certain kinds of fish. The body fat becomes hard, lumpy, and painful and the animal may be feverish or anorexic. Called also steatitis and nutritional steatitis.
