Origin, terminal branch (with dorsal artery of penis) of the internal pudendal artery; distribution, corpus cavernosum of the penis via capillary beds and via helcine arteries and arteriovenous anastomoses to produce erection.
Synonym: arteria profunda penis.
(05 Mar 2000)
arteria pudenda interna
<anatomy, artery> Origin, internal iliac; branches, inferior rectal, perineal, posterior scrotal (or labial), urethral, artery of bulb of penis (or of vestibule), deep artery of penis (or clitoris), dorsal artery of penis (or clitoris).
Synonym: arteria pudenda interna.

arteria pulmonalis
Origin, right ventricle of heart; distribution, it divides into the right pulmonary artery and the left pulmonary artery, which enter the corresponding lungs and branch along with the segmental bronchi.
Synonym: truncus pulmonalis, arteria pulmonalis, pulmonary artery, venous artery.
(05 Mar 2000)
arteria pulmonalis dextra
<anatomy, artery> The longer of the two terminal branches of the pulmonary trunk, it passes transversely across the mediastinum passing inferior to the aortic arch to enter the hilum of the right lung. Branches are distributed with the bronchi; frequent variations occurs. Typical branches to the superior lobe (rami lobi superioris ) are apical (ramus apicalis ), anterior ascending (rami anterior ascendens ), anterior descending (ramus anterior descendens ), posterior ascending (ramus posterior ascendens ), and posterior descending (ramus posterior descendens ); to the middle lobe (rami lobi medii ) are medial (ramus medialis ) and lateral (ramus lateralis ); and to the inferior lobe (rami lobi inferioris ) are superior (apical) branch of inferior lobe (ramus superior (apicalis) lobi inferioris ), and the anterior, lateral (lateralis), medial (medialis) and posterior basal branches (rami basalis).
Synonym: arteria pulmonalis dextra.
(05 Mar 2000)
arteria pulmonalis sinistra
<anatomy, artery> The shorter of the two terminal branches of the pulmonary trunk, it pierces the pericardium to enter the hilum of the left lung. Its branches accompany the segmental and subsegmental bronchi. Branches to the superior lobe (rami lobi superioris ) are apical (ramus apicalis ), anterior ascending (ramus anterior ascendens ), anterior descending (ramus anterior descendens ), posterior (ramus posterior ), and lingular (ramus lingularis ), the last having inferior and superior branches (rami lingulares inferior et superior ). Branches to the inferior lobe (rami lobi inferioris ) are the superior branch of the inferior lobe (ramus superior lobi inferior ) and the medial (medialis), anterior, lateral (lateralis) and posterior basal branches (rami basalis ).
Synonym: arteria pulmonalis sinistra.
(05 Mar 2000)
arteria radialis
<anatomy, artery> The direct continuation of the brachial trunk, originating at the bifurcation of the brachial artery opposite the neck of the radius. Its branches may be divided into three groups corresponding to the three regions in which the vessel is situated, the forearm, wrist, and hand.
(12 Dec 1998)
arteria radialis indicis
<anatomy, artery> Origin, radial; distribution, radial side of index finger.
Synonym: arteria radialis indicis, arteria volaris indicis radialis, radial index artery.
(05 Mar 2000)
arteria radicularis magna
Largest of the medullary arteries which supply the spinal cord by anastomosing with the anterior (longitudinal) spinal artery; it arises from a lower intercostal or upper lumbar artery (on the left side about 65% of the time) supplying most of the blood to the lower two-thirds of the anterior spinal artery.
See: medullary arteries of brain.
Synonym: artery of Adamkiewicz, great anastomotic artery, great radicular artery.
(05 Mar 2000)
arteria ranina
<anatomy, artery> Termination of lingual artery, distribution, muscles and mucous membrane of under surface of tongue.
Synonym: arteria profunda linguae, arteria ranina, deep artery of tongue, ranine artery.
(05 Mar 2000)
arteria rectalis inferior
<anatomy, artery> Origin, internal pudendal; distribution, anal canal, muscles and skin of the anal region, and skin of the buttock; anastomoses, middle rectal, perineal, and gluteal.
Synonym: arteria rectalis inferior, inferior haemorrhoidal artery.
(05 Mar 2000)
arteria rectalis media
<anatomy, artery> Origin, internal iliac; distribution, middle portion of rectum; anastomoses, inferior rectal and superior rectal. Because the latter is a tributary of the portal system, this is a portosystemic or portocaval anastomosis.
Synonym: arteria rectalis media, middle haemorrhoidal artery.
(05 Mar 2000)
arteria rectalis superior
<anatomy, artery> Origin, inferior mesenteric; distribution, upper part of rectum; anastomoses, middle and inferior rectal. As a tributary of the portal vein, its anastomosis with these arteries forms a portosystemic or portocaval anastomosis.
Synonym: arteria rectalis superior, superior haemorrhoidal artery.
(05 Mar 2000)
