cholera
A serious and often deadly infectious disease of the small intestine. Symptoms include diarrhea and vomiting, and the resulting dehydration can cause death. This disease is rare in richer nations but is frequently found in poor areas where treated drinking water is not available. Outbreaks often occur either after flooding because the water supply becomes contaminated, or following periods of warm sea surface temperatures. (see copepods)
