| 설명 | 심신장애자에 대하여 직장-학교-가정 등에서 일반적인 사회생활을 할 수 있게 가능한 한 최대한도까지 기능을 회복시키는 일. 제1차 세계대전 후, 전상자에 대한 회복처치로서 미국과 유럽 여러 나라에서 실시된 것이 근대적 재활의 시초이며, 1940년대 급격한 발전을 하였다. 1948년 세계보건기구(WHO)에 따르면, 재활은 제1상에서 보건-육아, 제2상의 예방의학, 제3상의 치료의학에 이어서 제4상으로 내세우고 있다. 먼저 지체부자유아 문제가 오래 전부터 주목되어 왔고, 교통재해와 산업재해의 증가, 인구의 노령화에 따른 뇌혈관질환의 증가, 사회생활의 복잡화에 따른 정신장애의 증가 등으로 인하여 재활의 수요가 늘어났기 때문에 이에 대한 시급한 대책을 강구하지 않을 수 없게 되었다. 이것은 치료의학에 직결된 의학재활(medical rehabilitation)과 행정적 갱생지도에 의한 직업재활(vocational rehabilitation)로 나누어진다. |
